E-3 Mission Statement:

To promote the successful commercialization of energy efficient technologies developed with the support of the Department of Energy's Inventions and Innovation.

E-3 supports Inventions and Innovation and the grantees because:

  • Since 1976, I&I (formerly Energy-Related Inventions Program) grantees have been successful in commercializing their technologies, more so than other federally-funded programs.
  • E-3 members, primarily former I&I grantees, want the unique qualities of Inventions and Innovation to be available for future grantees.
  • The commercial products and services created by funding these early-stage companies provide a benefit to society by reducing energy consumption and pollution, and increasing job formation and wealth.
  • In spite of its success, Inventions and Innovation is in jeopardy of being eliminated as budget priorities shift.

E-3 continues to take our stories to Congress to secure funding for Inventions and Innovation at the minimal level of $4 to $6 million per year, with the ultimate goal of increasing funding beyond $10 million.  Now that energy usage and it's impact on the environment has become a topic of intense interest with oil prices exceeding $60/bbl, it's our belief that solutions can be found by harnessing the imagination and spirit of the American entrepreneur.  E-3 provides education, training, networking and mentoring for I&I grantess and others working to commercialize new, energy efficient technologies.
